Art is our connection. Art is the medium through which our souls connect, and because of this, we recognize a part of ourselves in the art we buy.
It’s in an artist’s expression that we find commonalities, such as a worldview, a shared emotion, or even a collective philosophy. And so in those moments we pause and survey the art in our homes, we know we are connected.
This universal experience was recently described to us in a review written by a young woman who had just bought her first piece of art ever. She had purchased High Seas, a popular piece by the artist Sebastian Govino. The piece portrays the silhouette of a ship sailing through rolling waves, with encroaching clouds from above, while focusing attention on the uncertain path ahead of the ship.
The young woman chose to hang this piece solely above her desk, and it is purposely the only piece of art in her apartment. In her review of the piece, she explained how it reflects the duality of uncertainty and self-reliance that she lives with as a freelance journalist, never sure what work will come her way, but always charting a course. She said, “I can see how the artist must feel working as an artist. When I saw that image, I knew we share similar anxieties and hopes.”
When we find the rare work of art that we so easily connect with, we are compelled to bring it into our homes and display it for all our company to see. As our guests and family enter our home, they too are connected with us, and each other, through the art we display.
A recent college graduate who now lives on his own for the first time chose to adorn the entryway to his studio apartment with a piece titled Castle, by Muhammad Sajid. It is a colorful image of a shining stalwart keep, hidden in a mystical forest. To this young man, his studio is his castle enmeshed in an urban forest. The piece is the first thing his friends see whenever they come by his studio. He wrote in his review, “All my buddies know when they enter my place, they’re entering my castle. We’re all just starting after graduating, and their places are their castles too.”
TapArt has a mission to connect customers and artists from all over the world because we know why we need art. To connect. To be part of something shared. To have an everlasting bond. Our art is a gateway to each other.
