How many times have you purchased art for your home only to realize that it was just too big or too small? If you’re like most homeowners, that probably happens at least once every few years. To make sure you end up with wall art prints that are the right size, we’ve put together some helpful tips and suggestions below on what to keep in mind when shopping for them. It’s always a good idea to start with the size of your walls and work your way backwards from there to find pieces that will fit your space perfectly.
THE GOLDEN RULES FOR WALL DÉCOR
Know the rules of wall art hanging. The art should be 4/7 to 3/4 times as wide as the furniture above it. The piece's center should be approximately 58 inches high. This is the height that paintings are expected to be in an art gallery. The piece's bottom should be 6-12 inches above the nearest piece of furniture.
TAKE MEASUREMENTS TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT SIZE FOR YOUR WALL ART.
There are two common mistakes when hanging wall art. First, create a small art island in the middle of a wall. The second is to hang a piece high enough that it requires a stepladder.
To find the right size, measure the width of the furniture and multiply that number by.57 (4/7) then.75 (3/3). This will give you the range for the size of the art. If your sofa measures 84 inches in width, your art should measure between 47 and 63 inches.
CHOOSE A GALLERY WALL OR ONE PIECE
The same principles apply whether you are hanging one piece or making a gallery wall. To cover the recommended width, use multiple pieces. Space pieces 2-4" apart. These spaces should be taken into consideration when you calculate the total width.
FINDING THE RIGHT SIZE BASED ON YOUR FURNITURE
These are the most common sizes of wall art that you can hang above your furniture in your house:
Choose art between 22-30 inches wide for a twin-sized bed.
Choose art between 30-41 inches wide for a full-sized bed.
Choose art between 34 and 45 inches wide for a queen-sized bed.
Choose art between 43 and 57 inches wide for a king-sized bed.
FOR LIVING ROOM:
54-72 inch art is available for a 96" couch.
41-54" art is available for a 72-inch couch.
Choose art between 34 and 45 inches wide for a 60-inch table.
Match the fireplace opening width with the art for art above a fireplace.
CONSIDER THE SIZE OF YOUR WALL
Here are image sizing images which are helpful to select perfect wall art for your home.
Large-Sized Wall:If you have a large wall (over 10 feet in length), then you should purchase either a large canvas print or large metal print. These are great for creating a cohesive, monochromatic look over your long walls.
Medium-Sized Wall: If you’re putting your wall art in a room with 8-10 feet ceilings, it’s best to select medium sized prints. A standard size is 24 inches x 36 inches. For rooms with high ceilings and for those who want more bang for their buck, we recommend getting large wall art prints that are up to 40 inches x 60 inches!
Small Walls:One of your first decisions when decorating a room is to decide on which pieces will anchor and complete it. Small wall art, such as canvas prints, is an excellent way to accomplish that goal. These smaller pieces can add style and class to any part of your home.
From the series of "Life"
The cycle of life is rather wonderful. It is indeed a boon, to be born into a world that’s so vibrant and alive. Bountiful nature, with its fruits, flowers, birds, and bees, is a magnificent feast to our senses. And in this big, beautiful, complex world, we set out to find our life’s purpose. We seek the path to success, the path to companionship, and the path to love. We’re in constant pursuit of ideas and souls that resonate with our own. We find means and ways to unleash the thoughts and imaginations, caged in our minds. We rise, we fall, we live and we learn. Extracting wisdom from each of our trials and triumphs. And eventually, our journey ends as we get absorbed into the ground, to be one with the very earth that we came from. Another chapter in the cycle.
